The Crawford University, Faith City, Igbesa, Ogun State, on Thursday announced Prof. Isaac Ajayi as its new Vice-Chancellor.
Dr Afolabi Oladapo, acting Public Relations Officer of the institution, said in a statement that the appointment was made by the institution’s Governing Council, in conjunction with the Board of Trustees.
A copy of the statement was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Oladapo said that Ajayi had become the third substantive vice chancellor of the institution, succeeding Prof. Samson Ayanlaja, whose tenure ended on Oct. 4.
He said that until his appointment, Ajayi was a sabbatical professor in the Department of Physics at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE).
The acting Public Relations Officer said that 50-year-old Ajayi bagged a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree with Second Class (Honours) Upper Division in Physics/Electronics from the University of Ibadan, in 1987.
The spokesman also said that Ajayi obtained a Master of Science (MSc) and a PhD in Radiation and Health Physics in 1990 and 1994 respectively from the same University.
He said that the new vice chancellor is also a graduate of the Management of Higher Education Institution Trainin
g of the Galilee International Management Institute, Israel and the Harvard
University Extension School on Higher Education.
According to Oladapo, Ajayi rose to the apex of his career when he became the acting Vice Chancellor, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State in 2014.
The PRO described the appointment of the new vice chancellor as an “icing on the cake’’ for Crawford University, because he had functioned in the Nigerian University system in several capacities.
Oladapo said that the vice chancellor, for over 25 years, had been actively involved in teaching and research in his field of specialisation in various universities at home and abroad.
“Within that period, Ajayi authored over 70 publications in academic journals and books, and attended over 40 local and international conferences.
“Ajayi, a Professor of Radiation and Health Physics, is a thoroughbred academic, an erudite scholar and a consummate university administrator of no mean repute,’’ he said.
